Term 4 Week 7 Update

KAYA,

I have just realised that we are now super close to the finish line and it's that time of year where no matter how hard I try to slow everything down it is just not going to happen! With reports on the go, seesaw tasks being prepared, graduation around the corner and our final excursion less than 3 weeks away, I feel that I am going to be constantly running...so apologies if I do miss something along the way (especially with preggo brain ATM too). Please let me know if I do, and I'll get on top of it straight away!

⭐⭐STAR CITIZEN⭐⭐
Well done to Madi who received our Star Citizen award this week for the value of 'Excellence'. She is an incredible role model who is continually striving to do and be at her best in all facets of school. Well done Madi!

Important Week 7 Information

SEESAW - REPORTING
With the end of Semester Two approaching us, your child will soon be receiving their end of year report. Please be reminded that each Seesaw post that has been posted over the semester is a reflection of that individual learning sample and may not necessarily be their overall grade for that subject.

SEESAW - POSTS
You would have seen over the past few weeks a variety of work in different learning areas.

One of these posts was our Informal Prose Inventory Reading assessment results. This was a small recording of your child's reading at the level they are currently sitting at. Some students had moved up a couple of levels which signalled excellent growth. On the rubric you should have seen your child's reading age/level, fluency score, accuracy rate, retell and comprehension score and whether they were 'working towards', 'at' or 'above' standard. There was some significant improvements from Semester 1, which was brilliant to see!

The Visual Arts post was a special post, as the students really enjoyed and were quite proud of what they achieved in this task. You would have seen a beautifully drawn scene from the novel 'Once', using one point perspective and different shading techniques. As well as this, the students composed a beautiful description of the setting they drew using their senses to inspire the figurative language techniques they used. It definitely was a personal favourite of mine.

Most recently you would have seen the Algebra Assessment, which placed a large focus on using the balance strategy to find unknown values, BEDMAS (for us old folk - BIMDAS) to complete the order of operations in an equation and finally working with linear and function patterns. This is one of my favourite topics in Math's and the students did incredibly well, with many students achieving personal bests within their results. Not to mention an incredibly high class average!

If you haven't seen any of these posts as yet, get onto SEESAW and I'm sure you will be chuffed with the progress your child is making. We aim to keep you updated with your child's progress across all learning areas and give you as much transparency in your child's learning as possible. If there are any questions or queries about your child's progress in any subject area, please don't hesitate to email us to arrange a meeting.

VINNIES HAMPER APPEAL
A massive thank you to those that have already donated some goodies, just a reminder that students in Year 4, 5 & 6 are being asked to donate Christmas Goodies: Chocolates, tinned fruit, non-perishable fruit juices, nuts, small gifts, pampering items, vouchers (K-Mart, coffee, etc).

GRADUATION KITE
The students will be creating a special momentous kite for the graduation ceremony. The students will be covering this kite  with many photos of their time throughout Primary School. We are asking that students bring either in a word doc, on a thumb drive or stored somewhere safe of their laptop at least 20-30 photos of their time throughout Primary School. The students will have an opportunity to share amongst one another and all photos will be sized and printed at school. We ask that you DO NOT email these photo to us teachers, as it is a separate task to the Graduation PowerPoint. We thank you in advance with your assistance with this.

GRADUATION PHOTOS
I am still waiting on 14 student's baby and toddler photos for the Graduation PowerPoint. It's not long to go now and would be devastating to not have your child's photos in the presentation. Please can you get them to me ASAP, as I would like to complete this by the end of the week.

ORIENTATION DAYS
Last Friday we had 11 students off at the Bunbury Grammar Year 7 Orientation Day for 2022. We hope they had a great day, from previous years' accounts the students are completely immersed in fun and have an absolute blast.

This Thursday 25th November St Mary MacKillop have their Year 7 Orientation Day and we wish the students well on this day. There is no bus supplied by OLC or SMMC on this day, therefore it is up to individual families to get your child there on the day. Unfortunately we are not given any details about these days, therefore if you have any questions you'll have to contact the high schools directly.

For those who will be at school this Thursday, we have plenty of Graduation jobs that need to be completed.

BUSY BEE @ THE CHURCH
This Friday 26th November all Year 6's will be heading to the church at 9am to participate in a Busy Bee and clean up.

We have adult helpers on the day from the Parish, who will take small groups of students to complete minor tasks such as weeding/gardening, window cleaning, dusting, vacuuming, wiping pews, rubbish collecting, etc. It is such a great way for the students to give back to the community through some service learning and most importantly showing the 'Spirit of Jesus'.

We ask that the students wear their Sports uniform and hat on the day (TEAL POLO NOT LEAVERS SHIRT), bring gardening gloves and any other gardening tools that may be helpful. Please make sure they have applied sunscreen before leaving home, packed a full water bottle and substantial recess on the day.

We will be leaving the church at 12.30pm, to ensure we return to school before lunch at 1pm.

CANDLE STALL
Christmas Gifts for sale on Tuesday, students will need to bring money to purchase the candles from Georgia Breheny. All money that she raises will go to charity, which is very generous of Georgia!
There are signs that have been placed around the school with what is for sale as well as prices. I will keep any purchases safe so there is no risk of them being damaged.

AGM
The AGM of the School Advisory Council and P&F will be held this Wednesday 24th November commencing at 6pm in the hall. All are welcome to attend, it would be great to see you there😊

LUNCHTIME FUNTIME
This week and the remaining weeks of term, Mr Torrese will be coordinating a couple of different activities for the students to participate in. On Wednesday the students will the opportunity to participate in the Sketch up Challenge Grass Area outside Hall.

  4. Three well-being tasks from learning grid
