Week 10 Term 3...we are so close!

Good morning beautiful people,

I write to you this morning with a huge smile on my face. I am so thankful for many things that happened over the weekend: from having a chat with my bestie in Perth, watching my eldest complete his First Reconciliation, seeing my boys smile when they noticed their uncle at their footy game, and spending time with my gorgeous little nephew who can out speak most adults! I hope you too had many things to smile about over the weekend.

I feel like it has been a mammoth term and am truly grateful for all your love and support given throughout the term. Just to think we have dealt with home schooling, been on camp, celebrated such a memorable Confirmation, began preparation for the musical and sustained a detailed learning program...I can see why 6R is crawling to the finish line. Thank goodness we are nearly there!!

I know the COVID restrictions have limited our contact this term/year, I just want you to know I am always available to meet/chat if you ever want to touch-base and check in. Please contact me if you do, it's never too much trouble.

REMINDERS - WEEK 10

Digital Portfolio
On Wednesday, we will be taking photos of and reflecting on our favourite pieces of work that we've completed over the past two terms. These will be uploaded on OneNote under your child's Digital Portfolio before they physically file them away in their black folders. Make sure you take a look at some point over the holidays, to see what they have been doing.

Week 10 Assessments
  1. Science - Irreversible and Reversible Changes Assesssment (Chemical Science): Tuesday 22nd September
  2. Mental Maths - Mixed Timestables: Wednesday 23rd September
  3. Maths Measurement Assessment - Volume, Capacity and Mass - Wednesday 23rd September
We will be writing revision notes in class for both the Science and Measurement assessment over the next two days to help with development of their study habits.

Operation Christmas Child Donation and Money
We will be packing our boxes on Tuesday afternoon, can you please ensure that all donations and money have been returned to school by then.

Mission Markets
Are on this Thursday 24th September, students are to bring a wallet or purse containing no more than $10 and a reusable tote or plastic bag to carry any purchases.

Faction Tokens and WWWF Winners
Naturaliste won the MJR token tally and Meelup won the Wheelie Walkie Waste-Free count, therefore both factions are able to wear free dress on Thursday (Mission Market Day) as their reward! Being a fellow 'Meelupian' I think it'll be jeans for me on that day!😉

Pupil Free Day
Don't forget that the students get an extra day off this Friday, as the Year 3-6 teachers will be having a session with Maths guru Ben Saulsman.

OUR LEARNING - WEEK 9/10

Over the past couple of weeks we have been writing and publishing our final piece of persuasive writing. The students had to select their ideal 'End of Year Excursion' location (within reason) and write formidable arguments as to why we should go there. They had to conduct authentic research, to ensure that it was a viable option, as well as find evidence to support their arguments. We will be voting on the 2 best writing pieces/suggestions and then put it forward to Mr Lee.

In our Art sessions, the students have been working hard on their Peace Posters for the Lions Club Competition that the Yr 6's traditionally compete in each year. They will be judged in early November, therefore we have plenty of time to ensure they are completed well. Mrs Martin and I have decided to postpone the Recycled Art Project to Week 1 of Term 4, as there are quite a few students who haven't collected enough of their materials to produce a substantial piece of Art. Having the holidays to now do this will allow for the students to really reflect on what they want to produce.

In Religion, we have been focusing on the sacrament of Reconciliation in support of the Year 3's who recently completed this sacrament. Within this unit we have been exploring our emotions and their effect on our actions, what a sin is and the conditions for a sin to take place and what it means to reconcile with God, ourselves and others. Being able to forgive is a wonderful gift, we will investigate this a little further in class this week.

In our Health lessons - we are focusing on ways to assist the student's well-being. We have covered topics such 'Positive Emotions, Being Engaged, Healthy Relationships' and will finish off this week by looking at 'Having Meaning/A Purpose and Setting Goals to experience success'. The students show such maturity during these sessions and try hard to apply these ideas to their real life situations.

HOMEWORK - WEEK 10

I have reduced the amount of homework for this week.

1. Reading - 20 minutes each night (please ensure they are writing it in their diary)
2. Assessment Study - Science and Math (Complete set Mathletics tasks)

I will be checking diaries on Thursday morning, can you please ensure you have signed it to acknowledge they have spent time this week reading studying for their assessments.

Have a good week!
