Week 7 Term 1

Kaya, I hope you all had a wonderful weekend. I spent the weekend celebrating the festival of Xavier! It is his 9th birthday tomorrow and without intending it, our schedule seem to be either basketball or birthday related. On the theme of birthdays, I want to wish Ruby Drmota  a happy birthday for this Saturday the 20th March. This week is a very exciting week for my new partner in crime, Miss Hurst as this Wednesday 17th March is the celebration of St Patrick's Day. Therefore the theme for Wednesday will be GREEN and all things Irish! Tell your child to come with an open, green heart. They are welcome to wear a green accessory of some sort along with their normal school attire.  Lá Fhéile Pádraig sona duit! (Happy St. Patrick's Day to you!) I also just wanted to include a little note on Saint Patrick's Day for those of you that do not know the background. Saint Patrick is the patron saint of Ireland. Born in Roman Britain in the late 4th century, he was kidnapped at the...

Message from Mrs Coltrinari

Dear Parents,     You may be aware, that I have been doing a three-week Practical Placement in Year 6R/M, for my Masters’ studies. Today is my last day in class, and it would be remiss of me not to tell you how fantastic your children are, without exception! It has been a privilege for me to call them ‘my children’ during this time.     As a teacher, it is my job to create an environment as conducive to learning as possible. That may include considering seating arrangements, presentation of material, my attitude in class, how I handle discipline, etc.  And as much as I consider and account for all those aspects of the classroom environment, nothing affects or shapes my plans more than your children, the students. They have kept me busy for sure, but it has also been heart-warming and loads of fun! I hope they feel the same and that they will take what they have learned this term and build on it as they continue their studies.     A ...

Term 1 Week 6

Kaya (Noongar for hello), What a stunning weekend, a touch on the humid side but as long as the sun is out I am not complaining! This weekend we played a bit of a catch up in the Ricciardone household doing a bit of the boring stuff, but now that the house is clean, the gardens are done and washing is sorted I feel I am ready to tackle anything the week throws at me. On a side note: I've never been known for having a green thumb but to my astonishment I currently have 17 capsicums, copious chilli's and 2 watermelons growing in my veggie patch...watch out you all may receive a gift home very soon. WARNING A BIT OF GUSHING AHEAD... I just want to share how proud and grateful I am to have your children in my class. Over the last couple of weeks, I have really noticed the students beginning to foster an important sense of maturity and responsibility. They have settled into their class routines incredibily well and are showing a real enthusiasm and drive for learning. Now that we ha...

Week 5 Term 1

Good Afternoon, I hope you all had a wonderful long weekend.  The Ricciardone's made a sneaky trip to Denmark with friends and it was such a wonderful reprieve from the busyness of life. We saw some beautiful sights and shared some special time with wonderful people, a highlight of the trip was the Treetop Walk among the Valley of the Giants in Walpole. I have a fear of heights, yet the beauty of the surroundings and support from my boys to make the loop made it special moment to remember. However if you ask my husband, his highlight was 'Dog Rock' in Albany...bringing back many childhood memories...mostly those of sheer disappointment (You must google it, if you have a chance...tell me if you see the dog face!) I want to congratulate the wonderful   Austin Marsland   on receiving our merit award last week. He recevied his award for being an engaged, independent and respectful student who always gives his very bestin all areas. What a champ! WEEK 2 LEARNING Religion...

Term 1 Week 3

Good Afternoon, I hope you all had a wonderful weekend and enjoyed this incredible weather. It was a quiet weekend in the Ricciardone household, which was perfect for some much needed R & R for the week ahead. The highlight of my weekend was sitting with friends yesterday morning at Commonage Coffee having a good old chat and laugh, while the kids played cricket until their hearts were content! It's the little things that fill my cup! I want to congratulate the wonderful Lexi Lepidi on receiving our merit award last week. She received her award for displaying incredible courage, compassion and leadership in her first couple of weeks here at OLC.  LEARNING UPDATES Last week, we began working incredibly hard on establishing good learning habits towards being responsible leaders. We are super proud of how much respect your children are showing to their teachers and peers at this stage, and hope that this is something that will remain consistent throughout the year. LENT Las...
