Term 4 Week 8 learning and Important Information

 Kaya,

My goodness, the end is in sight, only two weeks left with our little 6R family. I am full of mixed emotions, sadness that they will be leaving but happiness and excitement for our excursion and graduation.

I would like to take this opportunity to send you all a massive thank you for your support this year. Thank you for your kind emails, patience and laughs over the year. Well done to the students on their mature attitude and effort at the Parish Busy Bee on Friday despite the heat. The students put in a mammoth effort and demonstrated the OLC school values throughout the very hot day. The church looked wonderful when we left.

As there a lot of reminders below I have not included much other information. Thanks guys for your patience and understanding over the last two weeks. We will have a very busy two weeks ahead with lots of practice and preparation for both the Christmas concert and the Graduation so lots of rest ahead for the Year 6 students. Thanks guys!

⭐⭐MERIT AWARD WINNERS⭐⭐
Congratulations to Ruby, Mahley and Shaye who received a Merit award at Friday's assembly. It was a big week for 6R for award winners due to catching up on ones that were missed in earlier weeks. All three students have pushed hard right to the end to ensure they are doing their best and I am proud of the determination and GRIT they are showing as race to the end getting very tired. Good job guys 👍

Term 4 Week 8 Information:

Vinnies Christmas Appeal
Thank you for kind and generous donations, the 6R donation box is looking awesome. This will be the last week for donations. The school have asked the Year 6 students to provide the following Christmas Goodies: Chocolates, tinned fruit, non-perishable fruit juices, nuts, small gifts, pampering items, vouchers (KMart, coffee, etc). Thank you in advance for your support and donations. 💗

Year 6 End of Year Concert Dress
A reminder that this is on Tuesday 7th December beginning at 5.30pm. The theme for the end of year concert dress is ‘Casual Christmas Wear’. Christmas colours, t-shirts and Christmas accessories are all perfect for the occasion. Please note that members of the choir and OLC Dance Crew are asked to wear white with any Christmas accessories they would like to add. Mrs Sherborne and Mrs Haines.

Graduation PowerPoint
We are missing some baby photos and a few of both babies and toddlers. We would like to create a PowerPoint for Graduation with these special photos, as well as others from their time at OLC. If you have any ripper photos from your child's time at OLC, we would greatly appreciate any donations. Please email them through so I can get onto this job as soon as I can.

Library Books
If you can please ask your child to make sure that they are checking for any school library books that may be hiding on their shelves or in their bedroom. Mrs Kemp is currently going through her lists so you may receive an individual message from her.

The Season of Advent
We celebrated the beginning of the season of Advent yesterday. Advent is a period of spiritual preparation in which many Christians make themselves ready for the coming, or birth of the Lord, Jesus Christ. Celebrating Advent typically involves a season of prayer, fasting, and repentance, followed by anticipation, hope, and joy. We celebrate Advent not only by thanking God for Christ's first coming to Earth as a baby, but also for his presence among us today through the Holy Spirit, and in preparation and anticipation of his final coming at the end of the age.

International Day of Disability
Friday, December 3 is International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPD). More than 1 billion people experience disability, and this figure is predicted to rise, due in part to population ageing and an increase in the prevalence of noncommunicable diseases. While disability correlates with disadvantage, not all people with disabilities are equally disadvantaged. Much depends on the context in which they live, and whether they have equal access to health, education and employment, among others. We will be discussing this in class over the week.

Character Strengths
Dear Parents, currently at OLC we are focusing on modeling and observing different character strengths. The strengths that we will focus on are taken directly from the VIA Institute for Character. If you wanted to learn more about this please follow the link to the 24 character strengths: https://www.viacharacter.org/character-strengths
This upcoming week we are looking for people who show Self-Regulation. Can you encourage your child to reflect on the following?
