Hello from Kirra & Shaye - Week 4 Term 2

happy mother's day
Kaya,

Happy Mother's Day to all of you wonderful mothers out there. I hope you were showered with love and gratitude all day long. I thank you for blessing me with your beautiful children; your strong values, incredible leadership and endless love are creating some pretty amazing human beings.

AS PROMISED I'M HANDING YOU NOW OVER TO THE STUDENTS...

During this rainy week of Djeran, we learnt that Sully loves STAR WARS. An important date occurred this week for all those STAR WARS LOVING fans... May the fourth be with you everyone!

Some people even qualified for the Margs Pro! YYYYEEEEEWWWWWWWWW!

Congratulations to the people attending Running club on a Wednesday morning! Remember you can still join if your interested. It’s a great way to start the day and prepare for the Cross Country coming up!

ASSEMBLY MERIT AWARDS
Congratulations to Pearl Scanlon on receiving the Merit Award for this week. She received her award for teaching us all how important it is to have a 'Growth Mindset' in our daily lives. She always tries to see the positive in things and never backs down at a challenge. Such an incredible young lady to have as a role model.

WEEK 3 LEARNING:
Spelling
Our focus has been on the 'a sound for snail' for our sound box and spelling homework. Did you know that the 'a' sound can be made 12 different ways...

Numeracy
Our Numeracy focus this week has been on simplifying and finding equivalent fractions. We have also been learning about factors and composites which help with our fraction knowledge.

AND to top it off.. we have even learnt how to add equivalents and whole fractions with like and unlike denominators.

Writing:
Like last term, we are continuing with our Adaptive Narnia Stories. Everyone has been working on their Story Roller-coasters. Story Roller-coasters are used to help plan a story. Everyone has used these coasters to write their 3 mini problems and climax through out their story. The students have been focused on their description of the build up to ‘reach the top of the abseiling tower’!(That was a camp reference…).

Project Compassion:
Well done to Georgia Breheny for raising $558 at her mother’s day candle store. All the money is donated to Project Compassion for less fortunate families over seas. Although they’re all sold out, you can order one from her home business Ocean Glance.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION
Year Six Assembly
This Friday 14th May, we have our Performance assembly in the hall at 2.15. It is quite the mash up - it will show case some of the learning that has taken place around our reading groups, entwined with a bit of camp humour, not to mention throwing in a bit of a reality game show! We hope to see you there.

Book Fair Week 5
On Tuesday and Wednesday of Week 5, Mrs Kemp will be running a Book Fair again, selling books and posters to raise funds for the school's library resources. We hope you are able to support this fundraiser.

Community Support:
Dear OLC Community,
As you know one of our family's recently suffered the unexpected loss of their husband and father in February this year. Dave Clift was husband to Annmarie and dad to Violet in Year 5H, and to former OLC students Damon (17), and Sunny (15). Annmarie has been overwhelmed by the love and support she has already received in terms of willing listeners, shoulders to cry on and lovingly prepared meals. Many people have continued to ask how they might best help the family as they move forward. Here is a way. Without Dave and an income, Annmarie could really use some financial support. If you are able, even if in a small way to contribute to this Go Fund Me Campaign, she would be forever grateful. Thank you and may God Bless you.
