Welcome to Year 6R 2021

Hello and Welcome to the Yr 6R blog!

We hope you have all had a relaxing and peaceful holiday and enjoyed some of this beautiful summer weather!  We are looking forward to teaching your beautiful children and working with you throughout your child's learning journey this year.

We thought that it would be helpful if we gave you some information on the logistics of the first few weeks which may be handy in finalising the last preparations for the students to come to school on Monday 1st February.

Due to ongoing restrictions and general COVID awareness, you are welcome to walk your child to the door where we will be waiting to greet you and your child on the first day.

Day 1 – Is always busy and everyone (including us) is nervous about how the day will go. If you can make sure your child is at school as close to 8.30am as possible.

Book Orders - If you can please make sure that you have unpacked and labelled all items as necessary, we would be very appreciative. We will assist the students with putting their items into their drawers and necessary storaage tubs.

Exercise and Scrap Books – If you can please make sure that you have purchased the given number of exercise and scrap books stated on the booklist, as they all get used throughout the year.

Over the year the students exercise books become quite worn out, therefore we reccommend buying your child clear book covers. Please see image below for example, these can be found at Kmart, Big W, Officeworks and Callows. Using these covers helps the books to last better through the year and reinforces care and respect for their workbooks.

Any spare exercise books are to be clearly labelled with your child’s name. Please do not worry about filling in subject areas as they can be reused for the next year if they don't need them.

These spare exercise books will be kept in the classroom for your child throughout the year.

Stationery Items – Your child will have their own pencil case. We ask that all items are labelled with your child’s name. Can you please be mindful of the number and size of pencil cases that your child brings, as their tray capacity is very limited.

Please stock their pencil case with the booklist items, any additional stationary will be kept in the classroom in a labelled ziplock bag for your child to access when needed throughout the year. This is to prevent the amount of borrowing that takes place, interupting other students learning.

Term 1 Timetable - Please see below the current class timetable starting Monday. We will advise of you if there any major changes in the upcoming.

Please note that 6R has Physical Education with Miss Sinclair on Tuesday, students are to wear their school teal polo on this day. The students will begin Dance classes in Term 1 & 3 with Mrs Haines, our day for this and Sport on Friday, students are to wear their faction coloured polo on this day.

We highly recommend you add these special days of uniform/library book day to your family timetable or calendar.

Uniform – Please check in with the school website for the summer uniform policy and make sure that your child adheres to our guidelines. Both boys and girls must have their hair off their face and tied up if it falls below their collar.

First Day – there may be some nerves coming in on the first day. If your child is feeling a little nervous, this is perfectly normal…we are too!

Your child will see that they have been allocated a seat and a drawer within the classroom. As they come in, we ask that they bring in their bags to unpack, find their seat and then put their belongings in their drawer.

There is a home for their water bottles, and they are to keep their Crunch n Sip on their desks with their pencil cases. They will be directed to the whiteboard with reminders on what to do.

Gathering Time - class is open from 8.30am. If you can endeavour to get your child to class on time it helps to feel settled and organised for the day.

This is an important time of the day for us to connect with the students and help get them set up for the day. It can be tricky for us to give you our full attention on occasion, so if you need to speak with either of us, please come in a few minutes beforehand or send us an email.

Homework - OLC is continuing tfollow the Ian Lilico homework grid. More information will follow in coming weeks and please note that homework will not begin until week two, however we will be encouraging the students to read each night as of week 1.

Interviews - If you need to set up a time with Paula or myself to share any important information about your child, please email us directly to organise a time in the second week to meet.

We have received a very thorough handover from your child's previous teacher which highlights their brilliance and strengths and informs us of any areas to be aware of.

It is great if we have a few days to get settled with the children first.

You can contact us directly via email at sandy.ricciardone@cewa.edu.au or paula.murphy@cewa.edu.au

Please bear in mind that I am teaching throughout the day and don't always have access to my emails, so if it is anything of importance please contact me the night before or contact the office.

Year 6 Collaboration - We will be doing a teacher swap of classes for Science and Technologies at this stage and will share relevant information with each other as necessary. We come together on a regular basis for reading and spelling groups as well as working together in Art, Health and Religion.

Class Blog -This blog will be the main communication for any parent information over the coming year.  Please keep your mobile and email updated with the front office to ensure you receive texts and email communication from us throughout the year.

Bitmoji ImageCanteen Canteen will run on Tuesdays & Thursdays & there will be a limited lunch time only menu on Fridays. Students are welcome to purchase food and drink at recess without prior ordering. If your child would like a lunch order, you can order online or can be ordered directly at the canteen.

Enjoy the last weekend of the holidays and we look forward to seeing you on Monday!
