Wk5 Tm4

 Good morning everyone,

I hope you had a wonderful weekend where ever you were: lazing around in Hamelin Bay, catching some rays at a surf comp in Perth or just happy chilling at home! The weather was perfect for getting out and into the water!

Unfortunately I am writing this from home, as my hay fever has turned nasty and I am very croaky, sore and snuffly. I am off to the doctors soon and hopefully I can get something to help clear my head. This is definitely not the time to get sick, as there is far too much to get sorted for the end of the year. Fingers crossed I'll be back tomorrow.

I want to take this opportunity to celebrate the very talented young artist, Zahra Love, who won the Peace Prize Competition for 2020 on Friday afternoon.

Kaye McCormack from the Lion's Club presented Zahra with a certificate and $100 gift voucher. Kaye was most impressed with the quality and detail the students put into this task, interpreting the theme 'Peace Through Service' in such a mature manner. She even went as far as saying that they were the best she has seen in many years. GO US!! Over the weekend they have been on display outside of Coles for everyone to see how brilliant we are at OLC.

NEW...NOVEL STUDIES

I also just wanted to mention how proud of the kids I am, AGAIN. Last week we began Novel Study rotations with the 5J class during our Guided Reading time. From the feedback I have heard it is being loved by all, the Year 6's have naturally stepped up in their groups and truly embraced their novel. It is really exciting to see the students take ownership of their roles and help one another in developing a more in depth comprehension of their text. There is one novel at the moment, that looks like it's going to be taken off the reading list for next year, as our little critics have given it harsh reviews but I am hoping it is just a slow read and some exciting stuff begins soon! I am so glad we gave it a crack with Mr Jones' class!

It's NAIDOC WEEK this week, so you may hear the students come home and share a fact or two about the importance of Eddie Mabo and Vincent Linguari or even mention the flora and fauna that relate to the Wadandi seasons! We will be celebrating the Aboriginal culture in different ways all week. xx

REMINDERS - WEEK 5

GRADUATION POWERPOINT-
I REALLY REALLY need your photos for the school Graduation PowerPoint that will be presented at the Graduation Mass on Friday 4th December. I am asking for two photos of your child, preferably one when they are a baby and the other when they are slightly older. Thank you to those who have done this already, I have begun saving them into files and will start the powerpoint this week.

MUSICAL TICKETS ARE ON SALE!!
The Musical tickets are now on sale, please see below for the link to buy your tickets. At this stage we are going with only one night and the matinee, however if the ticket sales far exceed our number limit we will extend it to two nights.

So get on now and buy your tickets!
Please remember that we will require each family to bring a share plate for supper afterwards on this night. The school will provide the students with a little treat to celebrate the effort they are putting in.

CRICKET CARNIVAL
On Friday 13th November (this week) we will be travelling to Bovell Oval for a Interschool Cricket Carnival. We will leave on the bus at 8.45am and return to school by 2pm. Can you please ensure your child is wearing their Leaver's shirt or OLC Sports polo (no faction shirts) on this day. They must bring a hat, sunscreen, recess, lunch and a water bottle in their SCHOOL bag. I look forward to a great day, hopefully the rain will stay away.

Please ensure your child has returned their persmission slip, that was sent home last week if you want them to go. No form, no carnival.
