Week 8

Clientmoji

 Good morning,

I'm sorry the blog has come a little later this week, but it has been one of those weeks! The students are all looking very gorgeous and dapper this morning ready for our photos after lunch.

I am hoping a great Father's Day was had by all and the BBQ seasoning made it home safe and sound to all our wonderful fathers and has spiced up your BBQ feasts already. Don't forget to take advantage of those vouchers...

Yesterday Jack Roberts received the Merit Award for his caring, compassionate and respectful nature to all things...great and small. Jack gives so much to our group without even knowing it, constantly checking in with others, helping those in need and instigating a laugh or two! Congratulations Jack!

You may have heard...but last week we had a friendly visitor in the class. There were a few apprehensive participants who sat in the back, but by the end Fang was a welcomed addition in the class.

Thank you to Prue for taking the time to bring him in.

Week 8 Reminders

Operation Christmas Child
Thank you to those who have brought in their donation and $2.50 for shipping. For further information about this initiative please refer to last weeks blog post. If we could have all money and donations in by the end of next week (Friday 18th September), it would be greatly appreciated.

Book Fair (From Marylee Kemp)
When: Tuesday September 15th and Wednesday September 16th
Where: OLC hall (note the change of venue)
Times: Before ( 8 - 8.40 am) and after school (2.40-4 pm) on both days.

We will be open 20 minutes before school finishes each day for those parents who would like to browse without their children. We will also open from 1.10 pm – 1.30 pm on each of these days for the children to come in , browse and buy. If you are sending money to school with your child no more than $20 please.

With sustainability a high priority on our school improvement plan we have decide to limit the amount of ‘landfill’ sold, in the way of novelty items often wrapped in plastic. Posters, pencils, pens, and some erasers will still be available.

Scholastic give the school a generous commission which can be spent at Scholastic or taken as cash to spend at local book stores.

Recycled Art Project
Yesterday we read the true story 'One Plastic Bag' by Miranda Paul. This is a story about a young woman in Gambia who saw a problem and withstood many challenges to find a practical solution. Her village was overran with plastic bags just being thrown on the ground. This caused many problems, one of which her family's goats to die. She decided to learn how to crochet and make coin purses out of these plastic bags. With the money raised she bought new goats for her family. As part of Mrs Martin's Art Program, the students have been set the challenge to find an item from everyday rubbish and recycle it into a beautiful piece of art. The students should have started collecting many of their one item weeks ago. Next week we are beginning to create their piece of Art in class (Thursday 17th September), can you please ask them what their item is and start/continue foraging for many of them by next week.

Social Media
I am aware that their are some students on some social media platforms and you may already be aware that recently on the news that there was a TikTok video posted that was unsuitable and distressing for many viewers. There were whispers of it in class early yesterday morning amongst a very small group if students. I very quickly pulled this group aside and spoke to them about the sensitivity of the topic and how it is only something they should be discussing with their parents not their peers. You may want to keep an eye out or check in with your child if they are on any social media platforms.

Homework
Don't forget homework is due tomorrow: Spelling activities (dictionary definitions & alphabetical order), reading and Learning Grid.

Some students have a Religion activity to complete from class, these are also due tomorrow morning.

Have a great day everyone,
