Week 5 Term 1

Good morning parents,

I hope you had a well-deserved rest over the long weekend. I know that Dunsborough had so much to offer and was buzzing with many events. My family and I were unfortunately absent from all the festivities here in Dunsborough, however we did get to have a mini getaway in Bunbury whilst my husband helped out at the Bunbury Geographe Gift (What, you say?? Lots of running races is the best way to describe it!)

I want to congratulate all the entrants who participated in the X-Factor over the weekend, I heard we had a strong bunch of entertainers representing OLC. A special congratulations goes out to Hannah, who won the event. We also had some surfers who participated in a comp on Monday morning, who too did very well for themselves...and just because we are such a clever bunch there were a couple of basketball games in Perth that were just as successful. What a weekend!

Well done to Lucas for receiving our merit award last week. We love the way Lucas is giving it all he's got in class at the moment to attain his best results!

A huge well done to all of our swimmers today. It is always a massive day and many can feel pushed right out of their comfort zone. I was so impressed by the kids willingness to keep going and going. I felt like every time our Sixes got out of the pool they were called for their next race. Our leadership qualities were in fine form, the sport captains were such organised and responsible role models. It was such a treat to see happy and smiling teachers at the end of the day, all of whom got off pretty lightly with an easy days work thanks to our leaders (Please don't tell them I said that!).

REMINDERS - WEEK 5

Absence - on Thursday 5th March (tomorrow) I will be conducting IPI Reading testing on our beautiful kiddies! I will still be around at school popping in and out and grabbing different students. This is nothing for them to be concerned about or to prepare for...more of an FYI.

Swimming Lessons - these begin next week and will run for 2 weeks (Weeks 6 & 7). Our specialist timetable will be slightly adjusted. With this being said, our sports days stay the same.

We will be leaving school at 1.20pm to head down to Old Dunsborough for our lesson to begin at 1.45pm. The students will have a 50 minute lesson and we will back at school for 2.40pm. Canteen will be as normal for these weeks.

Our classroom schedule will run as normal with a slightly modified program to fit in around swimming lessons and the adjusted specialist timetable.

Please make sure that your child comes to school each day with their bathers, towel, goggles and thongs to wear to and from the beach. Students are to wear their sports uniform for the two weeks of swimming to make life a little easier!

Stationery Items - it is about that time of the year where the 900 glue sticks and pencils that you sent in have mysteriously grown legs and disappeared. If I can ask you to check in with your child to see if they need anything from their spares bag.

Correct Footwear -  a note was sent home on Friday about the correct footwear, according to our school policy. There are a handful of students who are currently wearing the incorrect formal leather shoes. Just a reminder that black leather skate/converse style shoes are not deemed appropriate formal leather shoes. We ask that you change these as soon as possible. The uniform policy can be viewed on the school website, otherwise please see myself, Ali or Mr Torrese if you have any further questions.

Crazy Hair Day -  on Friday 5th March it is crazy hair day! The students are encouraged to wear crazy hair do's on this day for a gold coin donation. All funds will go to our Caritas Appeal during Lent.

Meelup Free Dress-  as winners of the token tally for the first 5 weeks of this term, Meelup also have Free Dress on Friday.

OUR LEARNING

Last week we completed a Number and Place Value assessment to which most students did very well. The students have received their results and have posted copies of their test on OneNote in their Math's folder for you to see. Please ask your child to show you, and if you have time talk through their successes and mistakes. Many of them have learnt after this assessment how important it is to check and recheck their work to avoid careless mistakes.

Our basil plants are really starting to flourish, in the coming weeks the students will be presenting in small groups the research, results and analysis of their experiment. Students will be given some time in class to prepare this, however they will also need to complete some components as homework before the presentations in week 9. Keep an eye out on OneNote in Science for their proforma and rubric, as this will clearly explain what they need to do and what I will be allocating marks to.

HOMEWORK - WEEK 5

We have given the students a new homework grid for this week, I have said that due to the short week they only have to complete 1 written spelling task (instead of 4 spelling tasks).

This is also because they have additional homework this week. As part of the Science lesson this week they will have to complete their pic collage poster on 'Adaptations'. I will be collecting these next Thursday 12th March. You should see all of this written in your child's diary.

Have a great week everyone!
